Dr. Murray studied medicine at National University of Ireland and internal medicine/gastroenterology training at Trinity College and Beaumont Hospital (Dublin) and the University of Iowa.  Dr. Murray was on the faculty of University of Iowa (1990-1998) before joining the Division of Gastroenterology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 1998, becoming Professor of Medicine in 2004.  Dr. Murray has strong background/experience in basic/clinical gastroenterology, and his work spans basic/translational research in celiac disease focusing on immunology, genetics of the disease and immune responses to food and microbiota.  He is president of North American Society for the Study of Celiac Disease.
